Strange Fruit Colors

Alright so here's some beginning colors. I like most of them but I'm kinda worried about my crow. I dont wanna mess up, but I think I can pull it off in the end.....?

Strange Fruit

Ok so here's a redo of a previous painting I did.

It can be a poster or even a book cover but it's based on the lyrics of the song "Strange Fruit" performed by Billie Holiday.

The song is a poem about lynchings in the south.

Here is the poem:

Southern trees bear a strange fruit,

Blood on the leaves and blood at the root,

Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze,

Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees.

Pastoral scene of the gallant South,

The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth,

Scent of magnolia sweet and fresh,

Then the sudden smell of burning flesh!

Here is fruit for the crows to pluck,

For the rain to gather, for the wind to suck,

For the sun to rot, for the tree to drop,

Here is a strange and bitter crop.

So we got some crow, some blood on some leaves, and I'm gonna try to get some pastoral colors in there.

I also want to see if it's possible to create that oily shine that crows have without too much difficulty.

Finshed Spiders

I guess this is finished. I like it a lot more after not looking at it for like...10 hours straight.

Also I think this is a lot darker than it is for real?

I feel like I'd really enjoy doing some line drawings like that without any shading. Also the fact that they're just really light hearted interests me.

Arachne

Thumbnails for arachne. This is very loosely based on her, it's more of just like...a spider lady, who likes to eat people.

And the almost final sketch. I made her legs a bit more staggered and other small deets.

Color studies last. I think she's going to be very pale purple with white hair but her spider body will be darker.

Portfolio

Here's the mailers I've currently finished for portfolio.

Focusing on a kind of greek mythology.

The Harpies.

A kind of Artemis.

And a water nymph. They're all pretty much done, maybe just a few tweaks.

Except for the water nymph, she needs quite a bit more work, though I'm working on an arachne image to take it's place in the mailers.
